This weekend it hit me that I live in New York.
I know. You’re probably saying, Gee, Deonne, what was your first clue? The fact that you just signed another one-year lease on your apartment? Or that you had trouble renewing your car registration in Taos because you don’t have a mailing address there anymore? Or that you now have two great jobs (and good friends) in New York and don’t want to leave them any time soon?
It’s as if New York and I have been casually dating for a year and a half – dinner, movies, making out on the couch – and now I’m finally ready to take it to the next level.
The City has met my mother, and she approved, and I have to admit I’m smitten with the way NY’s mind works. (The fact that it has a cute ass doesn’t hurt, either.) So, I don’t know. Maybe a few more dates, and then I might consider letting New York spend the night. I’ve even toyed with the idea of giving New York a key to my apartment.
Big steps, yes, but I think we’re ready. New York has been respectful of my need for space, and this weekend it hit me that I’d miss NY if it went away. And if I let it go too soon, I might not ever get it back.
I’m thinking of taking New York somewhere nice and letting it know how I feel. Put my heart out there. Risk rejection. I’ve got a good feeling the City won’t let me down. I’m going to the hardware store to get an extra key made, just in case.

I am SOOOO happy for you. Congratulations!
Barb
Can you post a picture of NY's ass, please?
Well, I can't say I didn't see it coming, I hope you two are happy together.
New York even told me, it likes that little bit of Georgia O'keefe in you.
Your shiny bright smile, ohh, it would like it's own toothbrush if you could stop by the pharmacy on your way to the hardware store.
Thanks for bringin some of your own Yankee ingenuity with you. We need more of y'all with your warm hearts and yer get it all done geddy up, get ups in these here parts.
Is that an exceptable alliteration?
You both make such a cute couple!!
Barb - You just never know when love will hit, do you?
Deborah - New York has a secret shy side, so posting a picture of its ass would make it uncomfortable. I want to respect its privacy.
Tusk - It was that obvious? I'll add toothbrush to the shopping list. And yes, alliteration combined with a Texas twang. Nicely done.
Gigglepeppers - Aw, thanks. I was thinking of getting us matching sweatsuits.
You rock, girlfriend! This post was so original and well written that it made me grin!
Thanks for the kind words, Michelle!
