Ha ha! Honestly, I don’t know how to start talking about the trip, so let’s do a little show and tell warm up.
Here's Mom implementing her brilliant hay strategy in Taos, where with one leftover bale from last year's gardening projects she created a furry blonde driveway that kept my car and the U-Haul (mostly) unstuck:
Mid-packing chaos in Taos. If there's any wonder why I was depressed about the idea of selling that house, check the sunset horizon through the windows:
Just shy of our first overnight stop on the road, Limon, Colorado, with its friendly faux-stuffed-bear welcome:
During the day Mom and I only stopped for coffee, bathroom, and gas breaks. We'd warm up leftovers from the previous night's dinner for lunch the next day in our hillbilly microwave (this was Mexican chicken and rice):
The first day back in New York. My desk is buried on the left while my Stairmaster stands proudly in the back. I'll post photos of the apartment after it's set up - the curtains have already changed, and there's art on the walls. (Thank you, Mom!):
The view of the apartment from the front door. Notice Mom's smile, despite days of daughter torture and non-stop work. She is truly amazing:
That's all for now. I'm about to hop on the Stairmaster for the first time since June, so if I don't post on Thursday it's because I'm lying in a crumpled heap, wheezing and clutching my flabby thighs. Wish me luck.
P.S. My article “How 2 Craft an Irresistible Blog” is up at the Wow! Women on Writing site. The webzine is chock full of info for writers of any gender, so check it out.
P.P.S. Since yesterday marked the beginning of four crazy-busy months (school, work, Ozone Park, etc.), I’m switching from 3x/week to 2x/week blog posts.
I know, I know, you can barely read this through your tears, but the idea is to post with less frequency but more quality. In theory. I may just post random thoughts, like the fact that I apparently have Buying Groceries in Bulk disorder, because I found four new containers of salt in Taos and yes, moved them all to New York. (Need more proof of my illness? Witness the Vat O’ Mustard.)

Congrats on making it one piece! I hope the stairmaster was kind to you.
Love the smiles on your mom's face...what a saint she is! Your apartment layout looks really cute (wow...you found a decent apt. in NYC? what, are you paying $4000/month?)...
but nice to have you back! love you mustard story (so funny) and your blog article was very very informative! I think the problem with my blog is that I am "all over the place"...but, well, that's really ME...so i guess I have no choice!?
welcome home!
haha...just noticed that I have the same red "thing" your mom is holding..except in grey (I prefer your red one!) :)
Alex - the Stairmaster, she is a cruel mistress, though I've avoided wheezing and crumpling so I guess I wasn't in as bad of shape as I thought.
Mikkelina - I'm "only" paying $2k a month, which according to my New York friends is quite a bargain. Your blog is great and very you - us scanners have to stick together!
